From Florac we headed northwest into the least inhabited dèpartement in France, the Lozère. After passing through a gorge popular with tourists, we rode essentially by ourselves all the way to Marvejols.

Many of the buildings in this area are roofed with local stones. This village didn't look like it had changed for centuries.

The rolling, wind-swept terrain interrupted on occasion by a village with a few farm buildings offered very pleasant riding. The views weren’t as dramatic as the more mountainous Ardèche and Vercors, but the emptiness of the area was peaceful.
