After battling and losing against a fox the previous night, we had to decide how we were going to fix the tent. After considering tape and glue as possible solutions, our tired brains finally realized that sewing the hole shut would be best.

We brought a needle and we had some dental floss in our repair kit, but we also had access to a tailor in town. Do we do a rough patch job ourselves or pay a pro? We decided to pay a pro. For €12, Lena the tailor cured our tent by mid afternoon, giving us plenty of daylight left to ride to our next destination Glengariff.

On our way to Glengariff we decided to take a minor road instead of remaining on the busier route. There are three main types of roads in Ireland. Minor roads usually start with ‘L’, followed by a series of four numbers. Semi-busy but smoother and wider ‘R’ roads usually have three trailing numbers. ‘N’ roads are essentially highways. We try to avoid N roads wherever possible. R roads are usually good. L roads are a mixed bag. These roads are usually in terrible condition and most often include steep climbs.

So back to our decision to take an L road on the way to Glengariff. Although it started as a steep climb, the road gradually mellowed out and led us to the top of a hill with fantastic views of the country we were going to explore in the next couple of days. It was nice to get up high to see what was in store for us. I hope we can continue to find little gems like this road as we make our way around the island.
